NPL ratio of ailing Vietnamese banks reaches 60%

Vietnam's central bank found non-performing loans at some banks as high as 60% of the total outstanding loans.

These banks’ losses even led to negative charter capital in certain banks, according to State Bank of Vietnam governor, Nguyen Van Binh.

He did not identify the said banks.

Before the SBV’s investigation, these banks reported NLP ratio at 2.5% and profits.

The 9 weak banks being investigated will be forced to be restructured.

The governor said banks’ reports are unreliable and suggest people to refer to SBV’s inspection agency. SBV’s data is the most “scientific” Binh affirmed.
