Seven & i Holdings to buy Australian 7-11 franchise

7-Eleven retail operator Seven & i Holdings has approved the purchase of all shares of its Australian franchise under the holding company Convenience Group Holdings Pty Ltd., encompassing operations of its convenience store and fuel retail services.

The acquisition of the Australian 7-Eleven franchise is part of a global CVS strategy of its operation of 50,000 stores outside Japan and North America by FY 2025 and expansion to 30 countries and regions by FY 2030.

Currently, the company has adopted “a world-class retail group centred around its ‘food’ that leads retail innovation through global growth strategies centred on the 7-Eleven business and proactive utilization of technology” as its ideal vision for 2030.

For its Australian operations, 7-Eleven Stores Pty Ltd is the biggest convenience store retailer in the region with an expansive merchandise roster, niche product offerings, and a lucrative loyalty programme.

Operating 751 outlets as of June 2023, the company is planning further expansion in Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, Western Australia, and other states to accelerate its long-term growth strategy and engage with its diverse population.

The purchase will incur a limited impact on Australian operations during the acquisition process until February 2024 but will contribute to its annual fiscal performance and long-term growth.
