Deutsche Bank looks to Asia for more profits

Intends to double earnings from the Asia Pacific between 2011 and 2015.

Germany’s leading bank said economic growth in Asia is expected to boost the performance of Deutsche Bank's businesses in the region, especially investment banking and wealth management.

Co-CEO for Asia Pacific Gunit Chadha said the bank was on track to meet its objective of doubling earnings from the region between 2011 and 2015. This is equivalent to an annual compound growth rate of 20% for the period.

"As equity flows come back, that will drive the custody end of transaction banking,” said Chadha. “As investment banking comes back, there will be more M&As; credit finance will increase, which will boost our fixed- income business.

"As risk comes back, the wealth management business in China, India and Singapore will have a significant leg up. So we're very constructive of our businesses in the future.”

Chadha said his bank needs to deepen its franchises in India and China and invest more in ASEAN. It also wants to grow its markets in Australia and Japan.
